Musings at Acorn Bank
It was my visit to Acorn Bank that inspired me today, it helped me to be able to imagine myself living in a woodland cottage. The garden and orchard were so whimsical and dreamy. I was lucky with the weather as the sun made it so much more magical. The Autumn colours had only just started, but I could imagine the beauty on a sunny Autumn day with the colours out in full force.
Whimsical spot in the garden at Acorn Bank
This post comes very much from my inner child and this visit reminded me of how I used to feel as a child. As I was walking through the woods, I was aware of how much more I felt an affinity with wildlife than with humans. There was a feeling of maybe being perceived as a bit weird or ‘witchy’ (at the lack of connection), but today I really thought I’d embrace that.
As I was walking through the woods, I noticed how light it still felt which surprised me because I remembered when I viewed a woodland cottage a while back and found it too dark. I guess I hadn’t really considered there are so many different types of woodland and they’re not all dark. I could definitely imagine myself living in these woods. I’d have a walled kitchen & herb garden (a bit smaller than the one at Acorn Bank) with a door that leads out to the woods. Who doesn’t want to have a secret garden?! I imagined myself creating little wood carvings that make the woods look like fairies inhabit them. I’d create some wooden way markers that would eventually lead to my house… but could also easily lead to a secret portal to a fairytale land. I’d create a viewing platform up in the trees with a rope ladder. If I owned a woodland, I’d create a space where wildlife can thrive, that is full of wonder, awe and inspires play and creativity. There’d be plenty of places to hide, secret magical spots to have a picnic or to read a book.
Maybe one day, that dream will become a reality…
